Terms of Service

Effective date: 24 October 2026 · Last updated: 24 October 2026

Please read these Terms carefully. By accessing or using URLDog, you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. Introduction and Acceptance

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern the access to and use of URLDog, the url shortening service available at urldog.net, its application programming interface and any related software, including the URLDog add-in for Microsoft Outlook (collectively, the “Service”). The Service is operated by Mental Informatics, Astrous 13, 131 21 Ilion, Greece (the “Operator”, “we”, “us”).

By accessing or using the Service in any manner, including by submitting a url for shortening, registering for or using an API token, or following a short link, you (“you” or the “User”) confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation, and “you” includes that organisation.

2. Definitions

  • “Original URL” means the web address submitted by a User for shortening.
  • “Short Link” means the abbreviated address generated by the Service (in the form https://urldog.net/CODE) that redirects to an Original URL.
  • “API” means the programmatic interface through which software systems may create Short Links.
  • “API Client” means a person or organisation registered to use the API, and “API Token” means the secret credential issued to an API Client.
  • “Destination Content” means any content located at an Original URL.

3. Description of the Service

  1. The Service allows Users to convert an Original URL into a Short Link, through the website or the API, free of charge unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  2. Before creating a Short Link, the Service automatically verifies that the Original URL is a valid http or https address and that it can be reached. Addresses that do not respond, that point to private or local networks, or that otherwise fail verification are refused.
  3. Each Original URL is stored only once. Where an Original URL has already been shortened, the Service returns the existing Short Link, which is shared by all Users who submit the same Original URL.
  4. When a Short Link is visited, the Service displays a brief intermediate page and then redirects the visitor to the Original URL.
  5. Short Links are temporary. Unless a different period has been agreed with an API Client, each Short Link expires 7 days after its creation, after which it is permanently deleted and stops working. Expired Short Links cannot be restored, and the same code may later be assigned to a different Original URL.
  6. Short Links are public. Codes are short and may be guessed or enumerated by third parties, and anyone who possesses a Short Link can follow it. You must not use the Service to shorten addresses that are confidential or that grant access to private information or systems.

4. Registration for API Access

  1. Use of the API requires registration with a name and a valid email address. You agree to provide accurate and complete information and to keep it up to date. Each email address may be registered only once.
  2. Your API Token is personal and confidential. You are responsible for keeping it secure and for all activity carried out with it. You must notify us without undue delay at informatics@mental.gr if you suspect that your API Token has been disclosed or misused.
  3. We may refuse, suspend or revoke any registration or API Token at our discretion, in particular in case of a breach of these Terms.

5. Acceptable Use

You may use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You shall not use the Service, directly or indirectly, to create, distribute or promote Short Links that lead to, or that are used in connection with:

  1. any content or activity that is unlawful under the laws of Greece, the European Union or the jurisdiction in which you are located;
  2. malware, viruses, ransomware, spyware or any other harmful or malicious code;
  3. phishing, credential harvesting, fraud, scams, impersonation or any other deceptive practice;
  4. unsolicited bulk communications (spam), including the concealment of the true destination of links in such communications;
  5. content that infringes intellectual property rights, privacy rights or any other rights of third parties;
  6. child sexual abuse material, or content that exploits or endangers minors in any way;
  7. content that incites violence, terrorism, hatred or discrimination, or that harasses, threatens or defames any person;
  8. the unauthorised disclosure of personal data or confidential information of any person.

In addition, you shall not:

  1. circumvent, disable or interfere with the verification mechanisms, security features or usage limits of the Service;
  2. create Short Links in an automated or excessive manner that places an unreasonable load on the Service, other than through the API within reasonable use;
  3. attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers, databases or any connected network, or probe, scan or test their vulnerability;
  4. use the Service to access or expose internal, private or restricted network resources;
  5. reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
  6. resell, sublicense or offer the Service to third parties as part of a commercial service without our prior written consent.

6. Responsibility for Destination Content

You are solely responsible for every Original URL you submit and for the Destination Content to which your Short Links redirect. The Operator does not control, review or endorse Destination Content and is not under any general obligation to monitor it. The existence of a Short Link does not imply any affiliation with, or approval of, the Destination Content by the Operator.

7. Enforcement and Reporting of Abuse

  1. We reserve the right, without prior notice and without liability, to disable or delete any Short Link, to suspend or revoke any API Token and to block any User where we reasonably believe that these Terms have been breached, that the Service is being misused, or where required by law or by an order of a competent authority.
  2. We may cooperate with and disclose information to law enforcement and other competent authorities where required by applicable law.
  3. To report a Short Link that you believe is abusive or unlawful, please contact informatics@mental.gr, stating the Short Link and the reasons for your report. We will review reports expeditiously and act on them where appropriate.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, the name “URLDog”, its logo and all related materials, is owned by the Operator or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. No other rights are granted to you, whether expressly or by implication.

9. Personal Data

  1. We process personal data in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation) and applicable Greek data protection law.
  2. In providing the Service we process: the Original URLs submitted and the resulting Short Links, together with their creation and expiry times; and, for API Clients, the name and email address provided at registration, a one-way cryptographic hash of the API Token (the API Token itself is not stored) and the time of last use. Our hosting infrastructure may additionally record technical data, such as IP addresses, in server logs for security and operational purposes.
  3. The website uses fonts delivered by Google Fonts, in the course of which your browser connects to servers operated by Google.
  4. For further information on how we process personal data and on your rights, please refer to our Privacy Policy or contact us at informatics@mental.gr.

10. Availability and Modifications of the Service

We strive to keep the Service available but do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free. We may at any time, temporarily or permanently, modify, suspend or discontinue the Service or any part of it, including the default expiry period of Short Links, with or without notice. We are not obliged to retain or back up any Short Link or associated data.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The automatic verification described in Section 3 is a technical check of reachability only and does not constitute any assessment of the safety, lawfulness or quality of Destination Content.

12. Limitation of Liability

  1. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with the use of, or the inability to use, the Service, including the expiry, deletion or unavailability of any Short Link and any Destination Content.
  2. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including the mandatory rights of consumers.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Operator, its owners, employees and partners from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, the Original URLs you submit, the Destination Content of your Short Links or your breach of these Terms.

14. Fees

The Service is currently provided free of charge. We may introduce paid features or plans, such as extended expiry periods for API Clients. Any such features will be subject to separate terms communicated in advance, and no fees will be charged without your prior agreement.

15. Term and Termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time; API Clients may request the deactivation of their registration by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service in accordance with Section 7. Sections 6, 8, 11, 12, 13 and 17 survive any termination.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may amend these Terms from time to time. The amended Terms will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Where changes materially affect registered API Clients, we will notify them by email at the address provided at registration. Your continued use of the Service after the amended Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of them.

17. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Greece. The courts of Athens, Greece shall have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory provisions of law that entitle consumers to bring proceedings before the courts of their place of residence.

18. Miscellaneous

  1. Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
  2. No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
  3. Assignment. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations in connection with a transfer of the Service.
  4. Entire agreement. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the Operator regarding the Service and supersede any prior understandings, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
